Getting an insurance plan is an important part of life as it helps to prevent any unplanned medical expenses. However, many people do not think of getting an insurance plan until something happens to them.
A woman pleaded guilty in court earlier today (April 12) after she made a false insurance claim and attempted to cheat Manulife of $1,128.57, an insurance agent was involved who helped facilitate the false claims.
27-year-old Silver Huang Hsin Tian pleaded guilty to one count of cheating, Strait Times reported.
Who What When Where Why How
The incident happened back in 2020, Patricia Quek Puay Yi was at a hotel and fell down and injured her foot and later required a surgery
She then texted Huang stating that she needed an accident insurance plan. The plan eventually came into effect after 1.5 months.
5 days after approval of the insurance plan, Quek had surgery and later made claims for her insurance.
Both Huang and Quek knew that the injury was prior to the injury plan and “by right” she could not make claims for it.
“Act Blur Live Longer?”
Manulife managed to find out that her injury was pre-dated and denied the claims.
Huang then told Quek to “Act blur” and hope that the claim would go through but this made things worse as the Police were later alerted.
Huang will be back in court on April 28 for her sentencing.
Potential Penalties
Cheating under Section 420 of the Penal Code, which is punishable with an imprisonment term that may extend to 10 years, and a fine.
