A woman in China put herself in harm’s way to save a 2-year-old boy from being hit by a lorry, losing her left arm along the way.
The incident happened on 2 October in Sichuan, China; along Linyuan Boulevard in Sichuan China, according to The Cover.
Ran Ti Lan was having a conversation with her neighbours at a nearby restaurant when she spotted the boy appearing to be looking for something on the sidewalk.
She paid no heed to him and continued chatting with her neighbour when the boy suddenly walked onto the road as a lorry drove towards him.
Ran then ran onto the road without thinking twice and pulled the boy back from the oncoming heavy vehicle, and she ended up being the one hit by the lorry instead.
She was then sent to the hospital where her injuries were so bad that her left arm had to be amputated – she went through several follow-up surgeries before being discharged.
Investigations have since revealed that the boy, Xiao Xin, was with his mother when she went to use a toilet across the street.
The boy crossed the road to look for her after she hadn’t returned, and the accident then subsequently happened.
