Zhang Xilin, 39 years old, was sentenced to 9 weeks imprisonment on 21 June and fined $2,000 after threatening to send her lover’s intimate photos to his mother and girlfriend.
She had pleaded guilty to one count of threatening to distribute intimate images and one count of breaching the Covid-19 (Temporary Measures) Act.
She was also guilty of breaching Covid-19 safe management rules in July last year by attending a birthday party with 13 other people – the maximum group size at the time was 5.
What happened?
Zhang met the victim online on June 1 last year, and they met up for meals and spent time together at the man’s rented apartment.
He bought her presents and gave her money, and they would video call each other while not wearing anything or when they were performing intimate acts.
He also told her that he would give her $2,500 to pay her agency fees and quit her job.
The man sent Zhang an intimate photo of himself on 16 June where his face and genitals were visible, and he then later blocked her on 21 June after being confronted by his girlfriend about his affair.
However, he later unblocked Zhang and told her that he would be helping her with her agency fees.
Zhang then threatened him on 23 June, saying that she would send his intimate photo to his mother and girlfriend if he continued ignoring her.
She then texted his mother and girlfriend, asking to speak to them; this alarmed the man who then reported the threats to the police.
