In Singapore, it is common to hear the term “flip roti-prata”. A woman recently encountered an unfortunate event with Air Asia where she was told to pay $780 for a ticket from Singapore to Bali.
Initially, Air Asia told her that infants there aged 24 months and below are not required to pay for a ticket and she will only be required to pay a $50 infant fee.
She posted two videos accounting for the incident that happened with Airasia.
Video Part 1:
Roti-Prata flipping time
Her flight was 1.40 PM but she realised that her passport has less than 6 months validity.
She was told by AirAsia staff to head down to ICA to get an extension on her passport and return for the 5PM flight on the same day.
She rushed to ICA and managed to get her new passport expedited and rushed back to the airport.
However, when she reached the airport, she was told that there is no 5 PM flight on that same day and said that that the next flight is 10.50PM.
She reluctantly agreed, and here comes the “prata-flipping” for the 2nd time.
She was now told to pay $169 for a ticket which includes $50 infant fee, $119 processing fee and a flight change fee.
However, the “Prata flipped” for the third time.
By the time she was supposed to board the 10.50 PM flight, the Prata has been flipped again.
“We are unable to check in your son as he is not an infant”
Now another staff said that the AirAsia colleagues made a mistake, and now she has to top up another $778 for her son to boarding the plane.
