As a result, SP PowerGrid was fined $150,000 yesterday (2 July).

A substation transforms high voltage current to lower voltage for use in homes, commercial buildings and etcetera.

JTC wanted to decommission the substation and on 24 September 2017, Asogan and 5 workers were gathered at an overground box to start work on the low voltage cables.

Technical officer Adam Mohd Noor unlocked the box and removed the protector panels before leaving the area for the workers to start work.

The live apparatus inside the box was fully exposed to everyone and there was no supervision from SP PowerGrid.

Asogan touched the conductive parts of a cable with his bare hands and was electrocuted.

He was then taken to hospital where he died.
