My boss fired me for the stupidest reason
I was a custodian at a office job and been there for 7 years. I very rarely had any problems. I just go around the building fix anything that needs to be fixed, clean, ect. But I got fired last night.
What happened was, I was cleaning the windows inside and outside. I accidentally left a bottle of window cleaner on somebody’s desk and I went home and totally forgot about it.
How that happened was I had two bottles of them. The one on the desk was half empty and the one I was cleaning with was full.
I just forgot about it. It was left there the whole night when I came into work the next day, the coworkers desk that I left the window cleaner on went and told my boss.
After he talked to me he told me I was fired. I asked him why and he told me because I left the window cleaner on someone’s desk.

- I would contact the company/hr and ask for a written statement for the reason fired.
- Yes, and when you get the statement, frame it up and hang it in your living room, that is gold.
- Damn. If it had been bleach, they’d probably have called the police.
- This sounds to me like an excuse to get someone off the books. Fight it. If you have no prior warnings there is no way this is a fireable offense.
- This should serve as a warning for everyone: if you suspect your employer wants to get rid of you or lay off people in general, don’t give them any excuse to cut you without proper compensation.
- Ask for the reason why you were fired. If they give a vague answer, write another email and tell them they didn’t ever warn you about your performance issues.
