The two workers had previously had altercations with each other but this was the first time things got heated and escalated into a fistfight that almost turned deadly.

One of the men attempted to pick up a fruit knife to attack the other party but was stopped by witnesses at the scene.

A 37-year-old man was subsequently arrested for assault while a 23-year-old man was conveyed to the hospital conscious.

8world News reported that the incident occurred on Monday at about 10.10am at Block 846 Yishun Ring Road, at two durian stalls that were side by side.

A witness said that the man in blue (as seen in the photo below) had suddenly shouted at the man in red, stepping up to the latter and wanting to hit him but was stopped by the other employees from the two stalls.

Fight started from cigarette

The fight had apparently started when the man in red gave a cigarette to the man in blue, and the latter then suddenly got agitated and shouted at the former, poking his chest in the process.

He then picked up an umbrella and a mop to hit the man in red, breaking the mop in the process although his attempts to hit the man in red missed.

The man in blue then started choking the man in red and punched him in the head before the latter broke free, but his clothes ended up being torn and his slippers fell off.

The man in red got upset at being attacked for no seeming reason and in an attempt to defend himself, picked up a red chair, before leaving the scene.

The man in blue then went back to his fruit stand and grabbed a knife, before being stopped by the other workers who rushed over to prevent the situation from deteriorating.

However, things continued escalating and the employees then called the police for help, and upon the police’s arrival, both men involved in the scuffle gave their statements.

The police said that they had received a report of an assault that took place along Yishun Ring Road on 8 May at about 10.10am, and arrested a 37-year-old man, while the younger man was sent to the hospital.

At the time of writing, police investigations are underway.

Worker often smelled like alcohol

A witness shared that the man in blue had only begun working at the fruit stall about a month ago, and would almost smell like alcohol whenever he’s nearby.

He added that the man in blue would also often get into arguments with the staff from the other stall, and had previously got into an altercation with the man in red on 2 to 3 different occasions.
