It was shared in the news media that in a nutshell, the former PAP candidates had lost the hearts and votes of mainly the younger voters.
Reports had estimated that there were 120,000 voters that comprises of younger couples residing in HDB estates came the numbers from the Singapore Department of Statistics.
The statistics had analsyied that more than 65% of voters in Sengkang were below 45 years of age.
Historian Kevin Tan had shared in a GE2020 forum:
“If you were the opposition (in a new constituency), you are actually on a far more level playing field, than as a team who has been there as an incumbent,” he said, stating the advantages in Hougang and Aljunied.
“So it depends on how you play your cards,” and that the WP had played their strategies well.
Media reports had also shared that the PAP candidates could not really relate well to the residents but instead found a sense of comfort with the WP candidates and proposals as the residents were mainly young residents and parents.
