A 35-year-old Indian national working as a construction worker died in a forklift accident that took place yesterday (7 July) at a BTO project site at Choa Chu Kang.
MOM said that the accident happened at Keat Hong Link, the location of an upcoming 571-unit Keat Hong Verge BTO project.
The worker was standing on the back counterweight of a forklift, tying an electrical cable onto the side of an overhead beam, when the forklift suddenly moved backwards.
He was then caught between the canopy and the beam of the forklift.
The SCDF received a call for help at about 10.15 am and the man was then sent to Ng Teng Fong General Hospital unconscious, and he was later pronounced dead.
The Police said that a 24-year-old man who is believed to be a colleague of the deceased was later arrested for negligent act causing death.
The main contractor and occupier of the worksite, Teambuild Engineering and Construction, has been ordered to stop all works there.
The deceased was a worker of Mega Engineering (Singapore), and his death takes the total number of workplace deaths in Singapore this year to 29.
