The 19-year-old was arrested by the police, and was charged in court yesterday (12 October) with his murder, and has been remanded for another week.

A 63-year-old woman who lives in the same block as the deceased and his son, spoke to Shin Min Daily News and said that she remembered hearing shouting at about 6pm on the day of the incident.

8World News also reported that another neighbour had heard people arguing loudly as well, and another neighbour that TODAY spoke to said that they had heard loud quarelling coming from the deceased’s unit in the past.

How the murder allegedly happened

According to Shin Min Daily News, the victim had an argument with his son and walked out of the house, and the accused then allegedly grabbed a knife from the kitchen and chased after his father.

He then allegedly used the knife to slash his father in the neck from behind, before slashing home again across the back.

The victim then escaped through the staircase and called for help from his neighbours, according to Lianhe Zaobao.

The victim eventually collapsed in front of a neighbour’s unit one floor below, and the Straits Times reported that the neighbour heard frantic knocking at her door before calling the police when she saw the victim sprawled on the ground with a metallic object.

The victim reportedly had a bloodstained knife near his body when the police found him, which measured about 10cm long; and he had stopped breathing by the time the paramedics arrived at the scene.

He was found motionless and declared dead at the scene by paramedics.

Introvert who kept to himself

The 19-year-old is reportedly the youngest in the family, with his 27-year-old sister being the oldest in the family.

He often goes jogging with her and was waiting for his national service enlistment in 2023, with a neighbour telling 8World News that the accused appeared to be shy and would often keep to himself when they bumped into each other.

He was often seen playing games while sitting near the gate of his home with his headphones on.
