Three Males Arrested For Allegedly Stealing Motorcycle In Tampines
Three males aged 15, 19, and 21 have been arrested for their suspected involvement in the theft of a motorcycle in Tampines.
The police said they were alerted to the incident on Aug. 17 at around 10pm after a motorcycle owner reported that his vehicle had allegedly been stolen from a car park along Tampines Street 83.
Following investigations, officers from the Bedok Police Division and the Police Operations Command Centre managed to establish the identities of the suspects. The trio were arrested on Aug. 18, within 15 hours of the police report being made.
The stolen motorcycle was also recovered by the authorities.
Two Suspects To Face Court Charges
The 21-year-old and 19-year-old suspects will be charged on Aug. 19 with theft of a motor vehicle with common intention.
If convicted, the offence carries a maximum penalty of up to seven years’ imprisonment, as well as a fine.
Police investigations involving the 15-year-old boy are still ongoing. As he is below the age of 16, further proceedings will depend on the outcome of investigations and relevant legal considerations under Singapore’s youth justice system.
The police have not disclosed further details about how the motorcycle was allegedly stolen or whether the suspects knew the victim.
Police Remind Motorcycle Owners To Take Precautions
Following the incident, the police reminded motorcycle owners to take additional security measures to reduce the risk of theft.
Motorcyclists are advised to park their vehicles in well-lit areas and consider installing anti-theft alarms. Owners should also ensure their motorcycles are properly maintained, as security devices and mechanical reliability can help prevent unauthorised use.
The police also reminded riders to always remove ignition keys and lock their motorcycles whenever they leave them unattended.
In addition, motorcycle owners should avoid leaving spare keys or transponders inside storage compartments, as these could potentially be used by thieves to gain access to the vehicle.
Motorcycle theft remains a concern for vehicle owners, with authorities continuing enforcement efforts and investigations against those suspected of stealing vehicles.
The police said members of the public with information related to such cases can provide details to the authorities to assist ongoing investigations.
