25 Y.O Police Sergeant, Teo, was charged with corruption on Thursday (2 September) for trying to court a woman and in return assist her with her pending case with Central Narcotics Bureau (CNB).
He misused a Singapore Police Force (SPF) computer system on Nov 2, 2019 to access the data files of individuals that the police arrested in their operations.
He sent the woman a photograph related to the operation where she was caught on a month later on Dec 8.
Using the photograph, he allegedly tried to ask for gratification from the woman in the form of a romantic relationship and in return he will help to assist in her pending case with CNB.
His request was rejected by the woman and Teo was therefore charged with a count of unauthorised access of computer materials, another for wrongful communication of information and another for corruption.
CPIB said that they will not hesitate to take stern action against corruption, especially so if they are public officers who abuse their authorities and destroy the reputation of the Public Service.
Teo could be jailed up to five years, fined up to S$10,000 or both if he is convicted of corruption.
For wrongful communication of information under the Official Secrets Act, the penalties are imprisonment up to two years and a fine up to S$2,000.
For unauthorised access to computer materials under the Computer Misuse Act, the penalties are a S$5,000 fine and two years jail or both.
