A 1-year-old boy in Malaysia was killed after being hit by a falling tree at the Pantai Puteri beach, while his mother was seriously injured, according to Sinar Daily.
The Melaka Tengah district police chief ACP Christopher Patit identified the deceased child as 1-year-old Mohd Zafran Ilman Mohd Sazwan.
He was being carried by his 34-year-old mother Nurulhuda Md Ali at the time of the incident (12 November).
Patit said in a statement:
“Police received information about the incident around 6.43pm. While the mother was carrying her baby and walking towards the beach, the tree suddenly fell and hit both of them.”
The family from Kajang, Selangor, were having their holiday at the beach and staying in one of the resorts there.
An eyewitness reported seeing the mother’s head buried under the sand after the tragic accident, while the baby was buried under the leaves and tree branches.
“The victim was dug out of the sand with the help of people. The woman suffered many injuries on her body, while the baby was unconscious and believed to have suffered head injuries.”
“The Civil Defence Force (APM) provided the victims with initial treatment before referring them to the Melaka Hospital for more treatment.”
Pantai Kundor assembly man Tuminaj Kadi added that he had received news from the Melaka hospital that the child passed away on 13 November at about 1.30am, according to The Star.
