A 12-year-old girl from Malaysia was allegedly struck by lightning while using her phone at her home during a thunderstorm at her home in Kelantan.
The girl was found dead next to her charger but it is not clear if she had her phone plugged in at the time of the purported incident.
The girl, 12-year-old Nur Asyqin Qistina, was found by her father on 15 August at about 4.50pm unconscious, according to Berita Harian.
Her father was praying at a mosque nearby and the girl’s mother then told him that their home’s electricity was cut, with a thunderstorm raging on at the time.
The man then returned home and was informed by his wife that their daughter was unconscious, and he found burn marks on her right hand and the mattress when he examined his unconscious daughter.
She was also holding onto her mobile phone in her right hand with a phone charger beside her, and she was then sent to a clinic where she was pronounced dead.
The police chief of the Gua Musang district said in a statement that the house’s solar inverter was struck by lightning, and there was no criminal element in her death.
