Thai Teenager Ends Up in ICU After Being Paid to Drink Alcohol as Part of a Challenge
A shocking incident in Thailand has left a 13-year-old girl fighting for her life in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) after she was paid to guzzle alcohol as part of a challenge. The girl, known as A, and her male friend of the same age were reportedly offered 1,000 baht (S$37) by a grown man to down half a bottle of alcohol.
According to A’s relative, the girl frequently visited a temple near her house to collect money from monks to support her large family of 13 members, including elderly individuals, young children, and disabled persons. On June 9, A and her friend encountered the man in the area, who promised them the cash reward if they completed the challenge.
A disturbing video of the incident shows the two teens drinking from the bottle while being cheered on by a group of men. However, A soon lost consciousness after completing the challenge and was rushed to a hospital, where she was placed in critical condition in the ICU. Her friend was left heavily intoxicated.
The legal age for alcohol consumption in Thailand is 20, and the incident has sparked outrage among authorities and the public. The boy’s mother has demanded justice, urging the culprit to take responsibility for the incident. An investigating officer has announced that everyone involved in the video will be summoned to the police station for questioning, with charges and punishment dependent on the severity of A’s condition.
