$14 CAI PNG AT HOUGANG, 1 FISH 2 VEGE 1 EGG, “DAYLIGHT ROBBERY”

Is S$4 acceptable? A man complained that he bought a plate of mixed vegetable rice in the Hougang area, and was charged S$14 for a piece of fried fish, two vegetables, and an egg, which he found to be too expensive. The vendor said that the ingredients were fresh and the portion was large, and if the customer thought it was too expensive, they could request a change.

The legendary $14 Cai png that looks like it costs a maximum of $7-8

According to a report by Shin Min Daily News, The customer, Mr. Chen (55 years old), said that he went to the Mei Hua Cooked Food Centre at Block 162, Hougang Avenue 4, to buy lunch at around 12 pm yesterday (5th). He bought a piece of fried fish, four-season beans, bean sprouts, and a fried egg, and was charged S$14.

“I asked the boss after I finished eating, and at first, she said that the price of four-season beans was relatively high. Later, she said that the price of the fish was S$8, and the four-season beans, bean sprouts, and fried egg were each S$2, but it was just a regular fried egg without meat.”

“I think the problem is that there is no price tag, and in fact, many vegetable stalls are like this. The vendor may have raised the price of other dishes because they saw me take the fish.”

When contacted by Shin Min Daily News, The reporter visited “Ah Jie Mixed Vegetable Rice Stall” this morning and spoke to the boss, Ms. Cai, who said that she remembered Mr. Chen and pointed out that he did not raise any objections when he was buying the food, and only came back to ask questions afterwards.
