In the dead of night, at the stroke of 2 AM on September 23rd, a seemingly routine police roadblock on Kallang Road turned into a real-life drama when an 18-year-old unlicensed driver decided to make a hasty exit, leaving four bewildered passengers in his wake, according to Lianhe Zaobao.

The Midnight Run

The incident unfolded during a routine traffic check set up by the vigilant traffic police to crack down on drink driving. Little did they know that the night would take an unexpected twist.

As the police roadblock came into view, the young driver, behind the wheel of a Mercedes-Benz without a driver’s license, made a snap decision.

With a swift reverse of nearly 200 meters, he brought his vehicle to a halt. Without hesitation, he flung open the car door and disappeared into the night, fleeing from the scene and leaving his passengers behind.

A Desperate Chase

The sight of the fleeing driver triggered immediate action from the traffic police. They wasted no time in dispatching nearby officers to pursue the young daredevil. It was a desperate chase through the dimly lit streets of Kallang, and the clock was ticking.

As the pursuit unfolded, the drama inside the Mercedes-Benz was far from over. Inside the car were four female passengers who, by all accounts, appeared to be under the influence of alcohol.

Disoriented and unsteady on their feet, they clambered out of the vehicle, uncertain of their next steps.

One of the passengers, seated in the front, nervously reached for her phone and made phone calls while the police were questioning her, she was reportedly calling the driver but insisted she had no connection to the young man who had just fled the scene.

The Pursuit Pays Off

The Singapore Police Force turned to technology to solve the mystery. They meticulously reviewed the camera footage from the area, and within a span of just six hours, they had successfully identified and apprehended the runaway driver.

The consequences for the young driver’s impulsive actions are far from trivial. Evading a police roadblock is a serious offense in Singapore.
