An 18-year-old man has been charged in court after allegedly assaulting controversial Singaporean figure Amos Yee outside an anime convention held at Suntec Singapore Convention and Exhibition Centre on May 9.

The accused, identified as Bosco Chun Ho Wang, appeared in court on May 11 through a video link. He was handed one charge each for voluntarily causing hurt and causing public nuisance following the incident, which reportedly took place outside the Doujin Market 2026 event.

According to reports, the teenager is a Singapore permanent resident and student.

Videos circulating online allegedly showed Yee being punched and kicked during the confrontation, which drew widespread public attention across social media platforms over the weekend.

Incident Happened Despite Event Ban

The alleged assault took place after Yee, 27, reportedly attended the anime convention despite previously being informed that he was not welcome at the event.

Organisers had allegedly barred him from attending due to safety concerns raised by event-goers and members of the anime community.

However, Yee reportedly showed up outside the convention venue anyway, where the confrontation later occurred.

Authorities said the alleged attack resulted in Yee sustaining minor injuries.

The case quickly became a trending topic online, with many Singaporeans debating vigilantism, public behaviour, and whether individuals should take matters into their own hands even when they strongly disagree with someone’s past actions.

Yee remains one of Singapore’s most controversial public figures following his earlier convictions linked to child sexual offences and previous online controversies.

Teen Granted Bail With Curfew Conditions

During the court proceedings, Chun appeared wearing an “I Love Rogue Demon” shirt, referencing a Roblox game inspired by the popular anime series Demon Slayer.

His lawyer reportedly requested a two-week adjournment on instructions from the accused’s mother, who attended the hearing in person.

The court later granted bail set at S$5,000 with one surety or S$2,500 with two sureties.

As part of his bail conditions, Chun must observe a curfew from 10pm to 6am, surrender his travel documents, and refrain from committing further offences while investigations continue.

The prosecution did not object to the proposed bail arrangement, noting that the accused is still a student and lives with his mother in Singapore.

The next court mention for the case has been scheduled for Jun. 2.

Potential Penalties If Convicted

Under Singapore law, a conviction for public nuisance may result in a jail term of up to three months, a fine of up to S$2,000, or both.

Meanwhile, voluntarily causing hurt carries a significantly heavier penalty of up to three years’ imprisonment, a fine of up to S$5,000, or both.

The case has generated significant online discussion due to Yee’s notoriety and the public nature of the confrontation outside a major convention venue attended by anime fans and cosplayers.

Police investigations into the incident are ongoing.
