Argentina declared yesterday (20 December) a public holiday for the whole country to celebrate the football team’s world cup victory.
Reuters reported that the national team greeted their fans at the Obelisk in Buenos Aires, which is a historic monument in Argentina.
Thousands of people had already begun flocking to the area en masse on 18 December after the Argentines’ victory against France in the final.
The national team returned home on the morning of 20 December, as hundreds of thousands of people gathered to welcome their national heroes home.
Netizens shared photos of the insane crowd size, with online estimates of the number of people present is about 4 million people in celebration.
Fans also crowded the national team bus as it slowly cruised around the streets in an open-top parade, and the crowds showed no signs of abating even at 4 am.
