A 20-year-old female university student was seriously injured after her ex-boyfriend allegedly attacked her with a knife at a private university campus in Subang Jaya, Malaysia. The shocking incident, which took place on July 14, has sparked public outrage and raised concerns over student safety and relationship violence.

According to reports from New Straits Times, the victim — a Chinese national — suffered a deep slash wound to the left side of her neck. She was swiftly rushed to University Malaya Medical Centre for treatment and is currently in stable condition.
The alleged assailant, a 21-year-old man who is also a Chinese national and reportedly her former partner, was arrested by police shortly after the assault. Subang Jaya district police chief Assistant Commissioner Wan Azlan Wan Mamat confirmed that officers received the emergency call at around 6:30pm.
Bystanders Watch in Horror as Video Goes Viral
Footage of the brutal attack quickly circulated online, particularly on the Chinese social media platform Xiaohongshu. In the clip, the female victim can be seen lying on the ground as blood gushes from her neck. Several students attempted to stem the bleeding while others stood frozen, unsure of how to help.
The suspect — believed to have collapsed beside the victim — was pinned down by other students and campus security officers. A knife, allegedly used in the assault, was retrieved by a student and handed to campus police.
Comments online also suggest the attacker had a history of domestic violence, although authorities have not officially confirmed this detail. Many users have expressed outrage, calling for more protection for students from intimate partner violence.
Investigation Underway for Assault with Dangerous Weapon
Police have launched a full investigation into the case under Section 324 of Malaysia’s Penal Code, which covers voluntarily causing hurt with dangerous weapons or means. If convicted, the accused could face up to 10 years in prison, a fine, caning, or a combination of these punishments.
Authorities have yet to release the motive behind the attack, stating that investigations are ongoing. The case has once again thrown a spotlight on domestic abuse among young couples, especially in university settings, where mental health and emotional stability may be overlooked until tragedy strikes.
Public Calls for Stronger Safeguards
In response to the incident, netizens across Malaysia and Singapore have called for tighter security within university campuses and mandatory counselling services for students involved in abusive relationships.
“This could’ve ended in a fatality,” one user commented. “The fact that it happened in a public area, in front of so many people, is terrifying. Something must be done.”
As the young woman continues her recovery, many are hoping that this violent episode becomes a catalyst for change — both in terms of policy and awareness around relationship abuse among youth.
