
A 20-year-old man was arrested for his suspected involvement in robbing a pawnshop. The man pleaded guilty on the 26 of August 2020 to one count of theft and one count of voluntary causing hurt to others.
The man was known to be a repeat offender, he was only released from the Reformative Training Centre one month before he committed the robbery.
The incident took place on the 18 Mar 2020 at around 9 am, the man pretended to be a customer when he enters a Maxi-Cash branch located at Block 629 Ang Mo Kio Avenue 4. While he was in the shop he requested the staff to view some gold chain.
After the staff pass the golden chain to him to try it on, the man immediately runs away with the gold chain. He then sold the golden chain at another pawnshop located at Block 702 Ang Mo Kio Avenue 8 for $10,800.
The police were alerted after the staff at the pawnshop noticed that the gold chain was a stolen good. After the man got his money, he went shopping with his friends in Orchard Road. He then bought himself a Balenciaga T-shirt and a Gucci wallet causing him about $1,835.
After investigations, the police were able to identify the man and arrested him within 3 hours after the incident.
