A 24-year-old man was taken into custody on Sunday, April 14, following an alleged robbery attempt at a supermarket in Choa Chu Kang. The incident occurred at approximately 3:15 am, as revealed by preliminary investigations.
The man, wielding a metal rod, entered the supermarket located along Choa Chu Kang Avenue 7 and placed the rod on the cashier’s neck, demanding money. The cashier refused to comply, and the man left the premises without any financial gain. No injuries were reported during the incident.
Within two hours of the report, Jurong Police Division officers identified the man through ground enquiries and the use of police camera images. He was subsequently arrested, and a metal rod was seized as evidence. The man is expected to be charged in court on Monday with attempted robbery.
Upon conviction, the offender faces a minimum of two years and a maximum of seven years in prison, as well as a minimum of six strokes of the cane.
