A 25-year-old Indian national was arrested at Changi Airport Terminal 3 after allegedly stealing items worth over S$1,500 from a retail outlet within the transit area.
The incident occurred on 16 July 2025 at around 1.41pm, when police were alerted to a case of shop theft. Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect had taken a bracelet and a pocket organiser, valued at a combined S$1,515, from the store’s display shelves without making payment.
With the help of surveillance footage, officers from the Airport Police Division swiftly identified the man and arrested him within an hour of the report being lodged. The stolen items were recovered in his possession, and he was stopped before he could leave Singapore.
Facing Theft Charges
The suspect is scheduled to be charged in court on 18 August for theft in dwelling, an offence under Singapore law. If convicted, he faces a jail term of up to seven years, a fine, or both.
The police reiterated that they take all shop theft cases seriously and will act firmly against offenders. Authorities also stressed that individuals should not assume they can evade the law by attempting to quickly board a flight after committing crimes in the airport transit area.
