26-year-old Kiong Boon Wee was previously given a 12-month conditional stern warning for assaulting his elderly father and causing him to fracture his hip after the latter refused to let his son learn gymnastics in April 2021.
The younger Kiong then assaulted his mother in September this year after she also refused to give him permission to learn gymnastics.
He was sentenced to 7 months and 5 weeks imprisonment on 2 November after pleading guilty to charges that includes 2 counts of assault.
What happened?
Kiong was with his 73-year-old father at their Ho Ching Road home on 23 April 2021 when they got into an argument about the former wanting to learn gymnastics.
Kiong then slapped and punched his elderly father in the face and used both his hands to push him onto the ground, before returning to his room.
The victim felt a sharp pain in his right hip after getting up and tried to make it better by applying medicated oil, but the pain was too much.
The victim and his wife then went to Ng Teng Fong General Hospital the following day and the elderly Kiong was then found to have fractured his right hip.
The police were then alerted to the incident by the hospital, and the victim was then hospitalised before being transferred to Jurong Community Hospital for rehabilitation.
In another incident, Kiong was home with his 60-year-old mother in May 2021 when he punched her in the face. Three months later, he punched her again.
Court documents didn’t mention why he assaulted his mother on those two occasions.
The mother then filed for a personal protection order against her son, which was then issued on 31 August 2021.
Kiong was given a 12-month conditional warning on 17 February for his assault on his father, but he then breached the PPO that his mother filed against him by assaulting her on two separate occasions after they had a tiff over his interest in joining a gymnastics class.
On 27 September, Kiong grabbed his mother by her shoulders and sunk his nails into them, before hitting her in the face.
He assaulted his mother again the next day and pulled her hair, hitting her face and grabbing her shoulders – she cried for help and their neighbours then alerted the police.
