A 26-year-old Malaysian mother has touched many hearts after making the painful decision to temporarily part ways with her seven-year-old son so she could travel to Singapore to earn a better living for their future.
The emotional farewell, which took place in Sekinchan, Selangor, has since gone viral after photos captured the heartbreaking final moments between mother and son before they separated.
Son Offers Mum A Glass Of Water Before Their Emotional Goodbye
According to reports, Kong Xiu Ping had decided to place her seven-year-old son, Kong Pei Ming, under the care of a children’s home in Teluk Intan, Perak, while she heads to Singapore for work.
Before leaving their home, an overwhelming silence filled the room as both mother and son struggled to accept the reality of their impending separation.
In a touching gesture, Pei Ming quietly walked to a table, poured a glass of plain water and carefully handed it to his mother.
“Mummy, drink some water,” he softly said.
The simple act was enough to break his mother’s emotional composure, causing her to burst into tears.
The pair then embraced tightly, knowing they would not know when they would be able to hold each other again.
Mother Repeatedly Reminded Son To Study Hard
As the time to part drew closer, Kong repeatedly reminded her son to be obedient and focus on his education.
She told him:
- Study hard.
- Listen to others.
- Behave yourself.
- Don’t be naughty.
Every reminder was accompanied by tears, with the young mother holding onto her son even tighter with each passing moment.
The emotional scene resonated with many online, especially parents who understood the sacrifices involved in working overseas.
Financial Difficulties Forced The Difficult Decision
Kong became a mother at just 18 years old and had previously gone through one failed marriage. Pei Ming remained with her and adopted her surname.
Due to ongoing financial struggles, her son had been cared for by his aunt for many years.
His aunt had effectively become a second mother to him, but increasing financial pressure meant she could no longer continue caring for him in the long term.
Kong later remarried and had two more children. However, her second marriage also encountered difficulties, and she is currently undergoing divorce proceedings.
Faced with mounting responsibilities, she eventually decided to seek employment opportunities in Singapore.
Children’s Home Steps In To Support The Boy
Representatives from Jaz Home, a children’s welfare home located in Teluk Intan, travelled to Sekinchan to personally bring Pei Ming to his new residence.
Community leaders and local representatives were also present to offer support to the mother and son during the difficult transition.
The organisation said it hopes to provide Pei Ming with a stable, safe and supportive environment where he can continue his education and grow up healthily.
Once administrative procedures are completed, he will enrol in a local school in Teluk Intan.
The home also shared a heartfelt message:
“We cannot change Pei Ming’s past, but we can nurture his future together.”
A Sacrifice Many Parents Understand
For many parents, this story highlights an often unseen reality behind overseas employment.
Leaving a child behind is rarely a choice made out of abandonment, but rather a painful sacrifice made in hopes of creating a better future.
As Kong begins her new journey in Singapore, she carries with her the difficult burden of separation, while her son embarks on a new chapter surrounded by people determined to support his growth and education.
Their final hug serves as a reminder of the immense sacrifices some parents are willing to make in pursuit of a brighter future for their children.
