A 2nd foreign worker, who was one of 17 lorry passengers flung out of the vehicle following an accident with a tipper truck on the PIE, has succumbed to his injuries and died earlier today (23 April).
He becomes the 2nd migrant worker to have died from the unfortunate accident.
The Migrant Workers’ Centre (MWC) shared the news on their Facebook page, revealing that they are currently in contact with his mother, who is working in Singapore, to provide assistance.
The other worker who passed away is Tofazzal Hossain, the sole breadwinner of his family, who left behind his parents, three younger sisters, a younger brother, his wife and 2-year-old son.
MWC is also in touch with his family to provide assistance and understand his family situation better.
They will also be working with the employer, Bright Asia Construction, to file for compensation through the Work Injury Compensation Act.
At the time of writing, 5 of the workers are still in the hospital, with one of the having been moved out of the ICU and into the High Dependency Unit.
