38 Y.O ARRESTED, BOUGHT STOLEN CREDIT CARD INFO FROM TELEGRAM & WENT SHOPPING SPREE

According to the Police media release, a 38-year-old man was arrested after he was suspected of unauthorised online transactions using stolen credit card information.

The Police recevied a report that unauthroeid transactions were made on March 17 by a online bookstore and investigations began. The Police woked with the bookstore and Ninja Van in order to unveil the man behind the transactions. The man was arrested in less than a week on 23 March 2022.

Investigations revealed that man purchased stolen credit card information from Telegram and used it to make multiple transactions online exceeding $4,300. Products such as music keyboard, power banks, some stationery, computer peripherals, a mobile game console and accessories, which were believed to have been purchased using the stolen credit card information, as well as three mobile phones, a central processing unit (CPU) and some computer peripherals, were seized as exhibits.

The Police revealed that this is not the first time the man had done this and it is believed that he is involved in a separate but similar incident as well.

The man will be charged in court on 25 March 2022 with unauthorised access to computer materials under Section 3(1) of the Computer Misuse Act 1993. The offence carries a fine not exceeding $5,000, an imprisonment term of up to two years, or both.
