According to Malaysian media reports, the woman pleaded not guilty to all charges during proceedings at the Sessions Court in Seremban on May 22. The accused has reportedly claimed trial, with the case now scheduled for further mention on Jul. 1.

The teacher, identified as Nurul Asyikin Sutan Shahril, allegedly committed the offences between September 2025 and April 2026. The allegations have since sparked widespread concern online, particularly due to the victim’s age and the nature of the accusations.

Alleged Incidents Took Place Under Tree And At Residential Property

Court documents reportedly stated that two of the alleged offences took place under a tree outside an apartment building in Seremban sometime between Sep. 12 and Sep. 20, 2025.

The accused was also alleged to have committed another similar act involving the same teenager at a house on Apr. 7, 2026.

The charges were filed under Malaysia’s Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017, a law introduced to strengthen protection for minors against sexual exploitation and abuse. If convicted, the accused could face a prison sentence of up to 20 years as well as caning.

In addition, prosecutors reportedly brought forward another charge involving carnal intercourse against the order of nature.

The case has attracted significant public attention in Malaysia, with many expressing concern about safeguarding students and the responsibilities of educators.

Teacher Also Accused Of Sending Indecent Images Via WhatsApp

Apart from the alleged physical offences, the teacher also faces accusations linked to inappropriate communication over WhatsApp.

Reports stated that the woman allegedly sent indecent images to the teenager between Sep. 13, 2025 and Apr. 10, 2026 while at an apartment in Seremban.

She was further accused of instructing the student to send explicit images of himself during the same period.

Under Malaysian law, offences involving indecent material and minors can carry severe penalties, including imprisonment, financial penalties, or both.

Deputy public prosecutor Norazihah Asmuni reportedly requested bail of RM30,000 (approximately S$9,650) for each charge. However, the defence lawyer appealed for a lower amount, citing financial difficulties faced by the accused.

The court eventually granted bail with several strict conditions attached.

Court Imposes Bail Conditions As Minister Calls For Action

As part of the bail conditions, the accused must report to the nearest police station every month. She was also ordered to surrender her passport and avoid any form of contact with the alleged victim or prosecution witnesses.

Following news of the case, Malaysia’s Women, Family and Community Development Minister Nancy Shukri publicly called for tougher measures to be taken against individuals accused of crimes involving minors.

The minister reportedly said she was shocked by the allegations and stressed that such matters should not be ignored or hidden from public scrutiny.

She also revealed that discussions are ongoing regarding the possibility of establishing a public sex offenders registry in Malaysia. According to her, such a registry could help schools and organisations screen individuals who work closely with children.

The case remains under investigation and no findings of guilt have been made by the court at this stage.
