5 BANGLA MEN ARRESTED BY ICA @ KIM CHUAN RD FOR OVERSTAYING & ILLEGAL WORK

The Singapore Immigration and Checkpoints Authority (ICA) said in a statement that they had arrested 5 Bangladeshi men between the ages of 23 and 29 for overstaying in Singapore, during an operation conducted on 4 April at about 4am along Kim Chuan Road.

The men were revealed to have overstayed in Singapore after their visit passes and work permits had expired, working illegally in Singapore and doing carpentry work.

ICA said that they take a serious view towards overstaying in Singapore and affirmed their commitment to keeping the immigration offenders situation under control.

Overstaying is a serious offence in Singapore, and it is not taken lightly by the authorities. Those who are found to have overstayed their visa or work permit can face severe consequences including being deported and banned from entering Singapore again.

Employers in Singapore are required to check the work passes and visas of their employees regularly. If an employee is found to have overstayed, their employer can face penalties, which can include fines and even imprisonment.

On 4 Apr at around 4am, ICA officers conducted an inland operation along Kim Chuan Road, arresting 5 Bangladeshi males aged between 23 and 29 years old for suspected overstaying offences.

Preliminary investigations revealed that they have overstayed after the expiry of their visit passes and work permit, being illegally employed in carpentry work.

ICA takes a serious view towards overstaying in Singapore. Under the Immigration Act 1959, overstayers can be jailed for up to six months plus a minimum of three strokes of the cane.
