AXA has revealed that 5,400 AXA insurance customers in Singapore has been compromised by hackers. It was also mentioned that the data that was stolen included email addresses, mobile numbers, policy numbers and date of birth for current and existing customers.
However, the good news is that the name, IC number, address, credit card and bank details were not stolen. AXA has stated that no further action was required from those who are affected as they claim it is ‘not likely to, on its own, expose you to identity theft’.
This is a good reminder to all to not be complacent with technology as hackers will always attempt to try to steal your data, either via a phishing email or a trojan.
AXA is taking the incident seriously and has done the necessary steps to secure their infrastructure. They have also filed a police report and are working closely with the relevant authority.
