A 6-month-old baby died while being under the care of his nanny at an unlicensed nursery in Johor Bahru, according to a report by China Press.
The heart-wrenching incident occurred on 15 July when Ms. Liu Huiling, 32, received a distressing call from the nursery, informing her that her beloved son was experiencing breathing difficulties due to phlegm in his chest.
Alarmed, she immediately notified her husband, Mr. Zhou Zhenxiang, who rushed to the nursery to check on their little one.
Ten minutes later, Mr. Zhou arrived at the nursery to find the nanny performing CPR on their baby boy. Tragically, the infant had already been moved outdoors and placed in the trunk of a car, with his hands and lips turning purple.
The sight was agonizing for the parents, leaving them devastated and full of questions about the circumstances surrounding their child’s untimely passing.
Acting swiftly, Mr. Zhou rushed his son to the hospital around 1:21 pm. Despite the best efforts of the medical staff, the baby boy could not be saved, and he was pronounced dead.
The news shattered the parents, leaving them grief-stricken and seeking answers and justice regarding the nanny’s actions on that fateful day.
Questions raised on baby’s death
During a press conference on 28 July, the distraught parents raised crucial questions about the nanny’s actions during the 58 minutes leading up to the emergency.
They demanded to know why an ambulance wasn’t called immediately and what led to the decision to place the baby in the trunk of a car.
Adding to the parents’ sorrow was the revelation that the childcare centre where their children were entrusted did not possess a valid business license.
Ms. Liu became aware of this unsettling fact in May, leaving her deeply concerned about the care provided to their three children, including the six-month-old baby who tragically passed away.
As the police investigate the incident as a sudden death case, staff members of the unlicensed nursery have already provided their statements and submitted evidence.
The person in charge of the nursery revealed that the baby had a history of cough and other health conditions. The couple is now anxiously awaiting the results of the autopsy report, which may take one or two months to be released, as the police continue their investigation.
