A 61-year-old man was tasered after charging at police officers at Toa Payoh, following an alleged case of arson at a home in Lorong 1.
According to Channel NewsAsia, the man had allegedly set a house on fire at Toa Payoh, before charging at police officers while armed with a knife, before being tasered by the officers and arrested.
He was later found with 2 other weapons in his possession and was subsequently charged on 25 March for possession of an offensive weapon(s).
CNA reported that the Singapore Police Force received a call for help on 24 March at about 8 pm, about a man setting a house on fire at Lorong 1 Toa Payoh.
He was seen armed with a knife at the time of the incident, reportedly brandishing the weapon and charging at the police officers when he saw them.
Photos by the Singapore Police Force of the seized knife showed that the knife was about 39 cm long in length.
The police officers, at the time, had told the man to calm down and stop with his aggressive behaviour but the man refused to comply and continued to be aggressive, charging at the officers with his knife in hand.
The officers then had to resort to tasing the man to disarm him, as well as using the “necessary force” needed to subdue the man.
Following the arrest, a total of 3 weapons were found in his possession; namely, the knife that he was wielding, another Swiss Army knife, and a hammer.
He was charged in court the following day under the Corrosive and Explosive Substances and Offensive Weapons Act.
The Singapore Police Force added in their news release that acts of violence that threaten the safety of members of the public and public officers performing their duties will not be tolerated.
