Singaporean Man Arrested for Carrying Multiple Knives on Public Bus

A 62-year-old man in Singapore was taken into custody on June 10 for his alleged involvement in carrying offensive weapons in public places. According to a news release by the Singapore Police Force (SPF) on June 11, the man was suspected of carrying a knife while riding a public bus on the same day.

The authorities were alerted to the incident by a member of the public at around 3:20 pm on June 10. The man allegedly brandished the knife on the bus and later disembarked along Geylang Road. Swift action was taken by the police, who utilized footage from closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras and police cameras, as well as follow-up investigations, to identify the suspect.

The man was apprehended along Victoria Street within a remarkably short span of three hours from the time the report was made. Further investigations revealed that he was in possession of a total of five knives, which were seized as evidence.

The suspect is set to be charged on June 12, 2024, under the Corrosive and Explosive Substances and Offensive Weapons Act 1958 for carrying offensive weapons in public places. If found guilty, he may face a prison term of up to three years and up to six strokes of the cane.
