The mother of an 8-year-old boy in China who fell down the stairs and died after unsuccessfully trying to tell his teacher that he was not feeling well, posted on Weibo on 6 February about the incident, according to The Straits Times.
She said that CCTV footage showed her son raising his hand 7 times in 10 minutes, trying to get the attention of his teacher because he was not feeling well.
The boy’s classmates said that the teacher told him impatiently to bear with it until the end of the class, and the boy then rested his head on the table as the indifferent teacher continued teaching.
The mother posted the CCTV footage on Weibo, showing her son in visible discomfort and grimacing in pain as he left the classroom.
Teacher dragged him by force
She said that the teacher had dragged the boy down the stairs with force, and when the boy tried to reach out to the railing to compose himself, was yanked away from it by the teacher.
The boy then fell and hit the back of his head as a result, according to another classmate who witness the accident.
The mother asked why the teacher didn’t inform them that her son was unwell or take his temperature, highlighting the fact that it happened during the pandemic, and that the boy’s father had already been waiting to fetch him from school.
The father was waiting outside the school when he heard students shouting about the boy’s fall, and he rushed to the school gates but was stopped by security guards/
He was then brought to the staircase where his son fell by another maths teacher, and he then called for an ambulance for his son 5 minutes after the fall.
He fell into a coma and was in the hospital for 280 days, and he was then nursed at home for about 190 days before he succumbed to his injuries and died.
Pushing of blame
The staff from the education bureau in Gulou, Fuzhou, argued that the boy had underlying health conditions and the fall didn’t cause his death.
The mother refuted their claims and said that her son had always been healthy, and said the school didn’t give feedback on any arising health issues during their health screenings.
Following the incident, the police retrieved the surveillance footage of the incident for their investigations, so as to stop the school from deleting or manipulating the footage.
However, they stopped short of disclosing if the teacher who was involved in the incident, faced any punishment for the incident.
