A 25-year-old Chinese national, Cui Huan, who was accused of murdering his own wife last year, had his murder charge reduced to voluntarily causing grievous hurt on 15 November.
He is now being accused of pushing the victim, 26-year-old Liang Xueqiu onto the ground and hitting her on the head and neck, resulting in her demise.
The offences were said to have taken place on a footpath near Block 211 Boon Lay Place.
Found motionless
The police said that they were alerted to the incident on 27 August 2020, at around 6.30pm in the evening.
They found the injured victim lying motionless at the scene and she was taken to Ng Teng Fong General Hospital unconscious.
She was later pronounced dead at around 10pm on the same day.
Cui was arrested within 3 hours by CID officers and Jurong Police Division officers.
Potential penalties
For his original murder charge, he could’ve faced either the death sentence or life imprisonment and caning.
For his reduced charge, if he is convicted, he could face a jail term of up to 10 years, a fine or caning.
Cui is expected to plead guilty next month.
