Health Minister Mr Ong Ye Kung recently shared on his Facebook page the current vaccination situation in Singapore and also said that vaccination still remains the best defense for protection against the virus especially with the new recent Omicron variant.
As of the time of his posting, he shares that 11 million vaccination doses have already been administered in Singapore.
Vaccination situation amongst seniors
Minister Ong mentioned that a month before the time of posting, there were close to 60,000 seniors who are aged 60 and above who are unvaccinated against the virus.
Even with the numbers of unvaccinated seniors at a high, Minister Ong mentioned that the Ministry continues to vaccinate as many as possible and also did a debasing of the population.
Fast forward a month to today, the number of unvaccinated seniors have came down to 41,000.
He added that each week, about 1,000 to 2,000 seniors are coming forward to take their first shot.
Working to get children vaccinated
Minister Ong also mentioned that they are now working to get children between the ages of 5 and 11 vaccinated against the virus, especially with the new discovery of the Omicron variant of the virus.
He added that some other countries have already started to vaccinate their child population.
Shares chart of vaccination by age group
Minister Ong also shared a chart which shows the percentage of the eligible age groups for vaccination as of 7 December 2021.
The age groups are split into seven categories, with ages 12-19 being the youngest and ages 70 and above the highest.
The numbers reflected on the chart have completed the full vaccination regimen.
