61 Y.O MAN WHO BROKE BUS CAPTAIN’S NOSE FOR TELLING HIM TO WEAR MASK, JAILED

A 61-year-old Singaporean man, Aziz Khan Shar Khan, pleaded guilty to one count of voluntarily causing grievous hurt.

He was sentenced on 29 December to 10 months imprisonment with an additional enhanced sentence of 24 days jail for committing the offence while he was out on remission.

Aziz and another 70-year-old man, Ahmad Robinson, were drinking inside a bus and the 62-year-old bus driver, who noticed it, stopped his bus and locked the doors.

Aziz then held the bus driver down as Ahmad attacked the driver, breaking the victim’s nose.

A warrant of arrest was previously issued for Ahmad on 1 December after he failed to show up at court and at the time of writing, the wanted man remains at large.

What happened?

Aziz and Ahmad were drinking alcohol when they later boarded a bus at Selarang Halfway House on 2 November at about 10.35am.

The bus driver noticed that they were drinking beer and told him o put on their masks, as he reported the incident to his control room and was advised to stop the bus and lock the doors after they made a police report.

The driver then stopped his bus along Loyang Avenue.

The two men then confronted the driver and shouted at him, demanding for the doors to be opened, but the victim held his ground and refused.

They then threatened him and Aziz grabbed the driver’s shirt before going back to his seat, Ahmad then used vulgarities on the driver and grabbed his shirt, and a fight then broke out.

The bus driver then took out his phone to try and make a phone call but it was hit out of his hands by Ahmad, with Aziz then joining in and restraining the victim.

Ahmad then climbed over the bus driver’s cabin door and entered the driver’s cabin area, slapping, punching, kicking and hitting the driver’s face, nose and head area numerous times.

The bus doors were then accidentally opened and the two assailants then fled the scene.

The police were then called by another bus passenger.

The victim was shown to have suffered a nasal fracture in an X-ray and was granted hospitalisation leave of 7 days.

Aziz’s sentence was backdated to 3 November, while Ahmad is still at large.
