Making use of the position of the recruiter, 48-year-old Chua Sah May used the information to redeem 397 sets of masks for herself. These masked were distributed for free by the Temasek Foundation.
According to Channel News Asia (CNA), the woman works as a recruiter and was outsourced to handle two companies in Singapore.
This provided her access to employee confidential information such as NRIC/FIN.
Temasek Foundation’s mask redemption requires Singapore residents to key in their NRIC or FIN to redeem the mask.
Chua made use of the information and redeem the mask kits with the FINs of foreign workers.
She went to Yio Chu Kang Community Club 397 times to redeem the mask, the mask is retail at SGD$8 apiece. The total amount of mask she took is valued at $3,176.
In Court, the prosecutor stated that the number of masks she took could last a person 66 years.
The prosecutor said: “Effectively, the accused took masks that could last her a total of more than 66 years”Â
She was eventually arrested and the mask was found in her home. However, due to hygiene, the mask cannot be redistributed.
Chua was sentenced to 7 months in jail.
Cheating cases can normally be sentenced up to 10 years along with a fine.
