A 92 year old woman was just reported as the first Omicron variant death in Singapore, said the Ministry of Health (MOH) today (22 Jan).
The woman had caught the virus from her family member, was unvaccinated without any medical history.
The woman passed away on 20 Jan, just ten days after catching the virus.
Doctors investigated her death and then concluded that it was related to the Omicron variant of the virus.
MOH extended their condolences to the family of the 92 year old woman and said that healthcare workers will continue to do their best to care for all the patients.
Statement
“To her family and loved ones, please accept our deepest condolences. The Ministry of Health and our healthcare workers will continue to do whatever we can to care for all our patients”
The report of the death comes after Singapore recorded a total of 3,155 cases yesterday, which consists of 2,794 local infections and 361 imported infections.
There was a surge in the number of cases as the daily report now includes Protocol 2 cases in it.
Protocol 2 cases refers to patients who are infected but well, or have been diagnosed to have the virus by a doctor and only have mild conditions.
