MAN JAILED AFTER PAWNING FAKE ROLEX CHEATING $18,000 @ MARSILING

A man was sentenced to jail after cheating a pawnshop of $18,000 with a fake Rolex watch.

55-year-old Tan Kok Eng conspired with 33-year-old Aw Poh Heng (both Singaporeans) to play a role in using a fake watch to acquire money from a pawnshop located in Marisiling.

Aw told Tan that he had previously cheated the pawnshop twice and he did not want to arouse suspicion of the pawnshop by going a third time.

The first two cheats yielded Aw SGD$34,500.

Aw then sought Tan to do the sale for him, Tan went to the pawnshop and managed to exchange the watch for $18,000.

Tan has yet to make full restitution to the shop and items from his home such as gold, cash and jewellery were seized.

Tan pleaded guilty and received a 6 months sentence.

Tan requested for his sentence to begin at the end of Chinese new year which was accepted, his sentence will begin on 16 Feb 2022.
