The Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade acknowledged last month’s arrest of a local former staff member by Royal Thai Police.

SD Card found on toilet floor

According to Khemmarin Hassiri, chief of the Royal Thai Police’s foreign relations branch, the Australian embassy lodged a complaint against a man on January 6. The inquiry, according to Thai police, is still underway.

According to ABC Australia, it’s unknown how long the cameras had been in the bathroom, with the situation only coming to light after a camera SD card was discovered on the toilet floor last year.

Australian defence and foreign policy expert said that this is a serious breach of security

“If security was lax enough to allow devices like cameras to be installed anywhere within a secure area, it suggests it’s not tight enough to keep the embassy secure,” said Hugh White, Emeritus Professor of Strategic Studies at the Australian National University.
