One of the highlights of Finance Minister Lawrence Wong’s speech is the upgrades of Singapore’s network infrastructure.
We are in the age of digital technology and therefore this move is not only the right one but also a must to strengthen Singapore’s digital footprint, which makes us globally more competitive.
Wong said that Singapore is already among one of the first cities in the world to have the 5G technology and he stated that the country will invest further.
He stated that upgrading the broadband infrastructure in the country will yield network speeds of over 10 times in the coming years.
6G
Wong said that the investment will include 6G technology and pointed out that it could be used for augmented and virtual tools.
Wong said that the country will set aside SGD$200 million for the next few years to enhance the currently digital capabilities which include businesses and workers.
How fast is 6G?
95gbps which is equal to 11.87GBPS, meaning you will be downloading over 5 2GB movies in a second.
This is about 4.5 times the speed of 5G technology which stands at 20gbps which is around 2.5GBPS.
But of course, this is the on-paper value as speeds are often affected by both the sender and receiver.
