President of Russia, Vladimir Putin, is intending to attend the G20 summit in Bali, Indonesia, in October later this year, according to Russian Ambassador to Indonesia, Lyudmila Vorobieva via Reuters.
Jake Sullivan, the White House national security adviser, said on 22 March that the US will be consulting with their allies if Russia should still continue to be a member of G20, following their invasion of Ukraine.
Russian Ambassador Vorobieva said that “many organisations are trying to expel Russia”, calling the reaction of the West “absolutely disproportional”.
Vorobieva also appealed to Indonesia to not be “swayed” by the West, saying “We really hope that the Indonesian government will not give in to the horrible pressure that’s being applied not only to Indonesia but so many other countries in the world by the West.”
Thus far, Indonesia has avoided criticising Russia for their invasion and called for dialogue; they also supported the UN’s General Assembly resolution that condemned the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
