Lawrence Wong said during a press conference on 24 March that if Singaporeans upheld social and personal responsibility, the number of SDAs can be lessened.
He said that even though the restrictions are easing, safe management measures still have to be complied with, which means there will still be a need for SDAs and enforcement officers.
He urged Singaporeans to be more socially and personally responsible, and to rely less on external forces and enforcement checks.
He added that if more people can do this, then the authorities can lessen the number of SDAs over time and redeploy them to other sectors with manpower demands as well.
Minister of Health Ong Ye Kung also said that the demand for SDA will probably come down with the recent changes in SMMS.
He thanked the SDA for 2 years of very hard work watching out for our fellow Singaporeans.
Also, with the borders reopening, workers from the aviation sector will return (many of the operational staff in MOH working in vaccinations, call centers and contact tracing are from the aviation sector), which means there will be employment opportunities for SDAs in MOH.
