The National Environment Agency (NEA) released a statement on Facebook, thanking people for doing their part to recycle.
they shared that Singapore’s overall recycling rate has increased to 55% last year, up from 52% in 2020.
Here is what they said
Thanks for doing your part to #RecycleRight.
Last year, we saw an improvement in Singapore’s overall recycling rate – from 52% in 2020 to 55% in 2021.
Notably, recyclables collected under the National Recycling Programme, which includes those from the blue recycling bins, increased by 14%!
This shows the important role that each of us play in our nation’s journey #TowardsZeroWaste.
The latest waste and recycling statistics also revealed that about 6.94 million tonnes of solid waste was generated in 2021, 18% more than in 2020, resulting from the recovery of economy and businesses.
This makes it even more urgent for us to shift from a linear to a circular economy, which forms a key part of the Zero Waste Masterplan and #SGGreenPlan.
