According to the Central Narcotics Bureau (CNB), 4 Singaporeans has been arrested for suspected drug activities on Friday (April 22) in Serangoon.
CNB said that the 4 suspects were between the ages of 61 and 67.
The total amount of drugs seized in the operation is 735 grams of heroin and 245 grams of ice, the estimated street value of the drugs is around S$90,000.
The amount of heroin can be used to feed the addiction of 350 abusers a week and 150 for ice.
Drugs hidden in food packages
On 22 April 2022, CNB officers arrested a 61-year-old Singapore man in the vicinity of Serangoon Road. About 245g of ‘Ice’ was recovered from him, along with cash amounting to close to $3,400.
In photos released by CNB, the ‘Ice’ is seemingly hidden in beverage packages and wrapped with a piece of magazine/newspaper.
CNB conducted a follow-up operation and arrested two Singaporean men, aged 65 and 67, and a 65-year-old Singaporean woman in the same vicinity of Serangoon Road.
A total of about 521g of heroin, 3g of ‘Ice’ and cash amounting to more than $1,500 were recovered from the 67-year-old man. The 65-year-old man and woman were escorted to their hideout in a private residential estate in the same vicinity, where about 214g of heroin, 6g of ‘Ice’ and various drug paraphernalia were seized from the residential unit.
Cash amounting to more than $12,000 was also recovered from the 65-year-old man.
Penalties
It is an offence for a person, on his or her own behalf, or on behalf of any other person, whether or not that other person is in Singapore, to traffic in a controlled drug, offer to traffic in a controlled drug; or to do or offer to do any act preparatory to or for the purpose of trafficking in a controlled drug.
If a person is found guilty of trafficking more than 15g of pure heroin (diamorphine) or 250g of methamphetamine, he or she may face the mandatory death penalty.Â
