ALMOST 500K PEOPLE GO MSIA DURING LONG WEEKEND VIA LAND CHECKPOINTS

The Immigrations & Checkpoints Authority (ICA) of Singapore has said that 491,400 people crossed the land borders from Singapore to Malaysia during the long weekend which lasted from 29 April 2022 to 3 May 2022.

The breakdown of the 491,400 people are as follows:

  • Car – 201,900
  • Bus – 155,700
  • Motorcycles – 133,800

The number of people who entered Singapore during the same period via the land checkpoints from Malaysia totalled 462,400.

Previously warned of High Traffic Volume

ICA had last week warned that it is expecting a high number of travellers to cross the land borders of both countries during the long weekend.

It also said on Sunday that the checkpoints might face traffic jams due to the number of people that will return back to Singapore before the long weekend ends.

Borders opened on April Fool’s Day

The borders of both Singapore and Malaysia were first reopened on 1 April 2022, April Fool’s Day.

It marked the first time in two years where travellers between the two neighbouring countries did not have to do the mandatory swab tests or quarantine.
