The time of the year for durian is here, but there is some unfortunate news about the harvest this year, the harvest video has dipped 50% this year.
That means that there will be lesser durians for sale therefore the increase in price.
With lesser fruits, available durian prices are expected to be doubled.
Musang King and Black Thorn
Black Thorn is expected to hit over RM100 ($33 SGD) and Musang King is expected to be priced between RM60 to RM80 (Which is around S$20-30).
Durian farmers said that the weather is to be blamed for the lower production. Farmers in Penang and Perak have reported the lower production rates, it is unclear if the rest of the farms in Malaysia are affected yet.
“A durian planters association has issued a report that not only prices for Black Thorn and Musang King durians will rise, but also kampung durians as well,” said Malaysia Deputy agriculture and food industry minister Ahmad Hamza
