A hair salon in Selangor, Malaysia; AJ Hair Studio, took over the headlines during their grand opening after running a promotion of RM1 haircuts (or SGD$0.31) by female hairdressers in revealing tops.
Their business opened for less than a week before the Malaysian police show up at their salon to conduct spot checks.
The grand opening of the salon on 2 June, saw flowers being displayed, a lion dance performance and a white Ferrari with “AJ Hair Studio” on the licence plate being parked outside, as well as a couple of models leaning against the Ferrari.
The opening of the new salon hogged the headlines and went wildly viral after the salon posted photos of their hairdressers in skimpy outfits and revealing tops cutting the customers’ hair.
The Subang Jaya Municipal Council (MBSJ) said in a statement that three MBSJ officers and four Royal Malaysia Police officers visited the premised on 7 June.
They identified two offences at the premises, including operating a health and beauty spa without a valid license, as well as displaying their business signboard without a valid license.
Ajees, the owner of the salon, said during a Facebook live broadcast that his salon doesn’t provide any illegal services or special massages, as suggested by some netizens online.
He appealed to the online community to not share the photos without the correct context, and revealed that the women in the photos were not their actually hairdressers, but his model friends who had come down to support him.
The photos were posted on his own profile to amuse his friends, and he also provided a tour of his salon to show that there were not back rooms for any illicit activities.
He also shared that the police and authorities have been alerted to the viral photos, and he then lodged a police report at a police station.
