About 900,000 Malaysians are working in Singapore, with about one-third of them travelling here every day to work, according to The Sun Daily.

Dr Syed Hussain Syed Husman, the president of the Malaysian Employers Federation, said that this is because of the better salary being offered and the high exchange rate.

Malaysians are also flocking to Singapore to work because of a better career progression path, as well as a more attractive lifestyle.

Syed said that the Malaysians get the chance for regional and international postings by working in advanced industries, and they get better incomes by working in Singapore.

He said that this was important due to the rising costs of goods and services in Malaysia.

Malaysian customer service employee Yuni, who is working in Singapore, told The Sun Daily that Singapore’s transportation system is efficient and reliable, unlike in Malaysia, where you won’t be able to know when the buses or train would arrive despite there being a schedule.

The outflow of Malaysians working overseas could result in Malaysia facing a manpower crunch, as Syed said the MEF is urging the Malaysia government to implement more advanced technologies to encourage the Malaysians to stay and work.
